The problem common to most Open Source software is financing - while growing their creations, developers also have to make a living in the meantime, and so end up spending most of their time working for external companies on completely different sorts of things, significantly slowing down the release of new versions.
That's, for instance, the reason why Linux took so much time to become a valid alternative for desktop and laptop computers. Most companies are willing to invest only on closed-source proprietary software, which will remain an exclusive property of the shareholders and neither developers nor users will have any kind of control on it.
Donating to the Wedgefish project is important, to help growing a valid idea and all of its possible future developments - direct democracy applications, user controlled media and companies and such (all of these made possible by the Affero General Public License).
The software is not going to be relicensed in any way - companies willing to sponsor it will be requested to accept the terms of the license and sign a "Copyright disclaimer" as stated in section 17 of the Affero GPL, to protect freedom of final users.
However, the name of all economic contributors will be added to the website and also to source file header comments, when applicable.
